Summer is one of my favourite seasons, everything just seems better when it’s a bit warmer, don’t you think? With this in mind, there are 30 ways to bring summer into your home on page 63. Whether it’s a few new accessories or a paint job, we have lots of ideas to welcome in the sunshine.
And while we can’t guarantee good weather (unfortunately), there’s no denying that we’ll all be spending a bit more time in our outside spaces. If yours needs an injection of style, then we have four great looks, starting on page 83.
And the good news is, you don’t need to have a large garden to create a welcoming area you’ll want to relax in. Elsewhere we have more amazing real homes, with inspiration for all tastes and budgets. I love this time of year. As the nights start to draw in it offers the perfect excuse to spend more time indoors. October is the month when you can really feel the change in the air. Cosy nights beckon, and with this in mind we bring you some top features to help you enjoy spending time at home again. I’m ever hopeful that the amazing weather we had last summer will make a comeback, and while we wait for that to happen there’s still time to style up your garden space to make the most of it when it does arrive! Whether it’s for relaxing, getting creative or working from home, we have all the inspiration for fashioning your own ‘she shed’. There’s also a truly dreamy garden makeover on page 106. If it’s your interior that is in need of an update, one of this season’s hottest trends is mixing warm and cool colour palettes, and it works surprising well. Houseplants have never been so popular, at least not since the 1970s. Just a quick scroll through Instagram will show up hundreds of posts featuring indoor greenery in all its glory – from beautifully placed pots of cacti to bathtubs full of monsteras, this is a trend that I don’t think is going anywhere! If you’re looking for advice on styling your home with plants, and the best varieties to choose from, then you need to head to page 84. Another item which no home should be without is a desk or console table – even if you don’t work from home, carving out an area
for sorting the paperwork offers even more styling opportunities. See page 94. I am constantly inspired by the reader homes we feature on these pages, and one of the things I most enjoy is hearing their stories; from the journey of finding their houses to how they turned it into their dream property, or even a ‘for now’ pad. And, of course, I love seeing the final results. One of my favourites this month is Siobhan and Joe’s clever renovation of their 1960s ex-council house. The transformation is nothing less than amazing, and they are now enjoying open-plan living, while still embracing the period of their property. Find it on page 14. We all love a good before and after, and I’m sure Britt’s kitchen on page 88 will impress. By keeping the same layout, and adding new cupboard fronts, tiles and worktops it just goes to show that it’s possible to get a space that you love without using up all of your savings! There’s nothing better than hitting a London hotspot for lunch or afternoon tea, and it’s impossible not to be inspired by the gorgeous interiors of the venues. With this in mind, we show you how to get the style of four top eateries, from the blush pink lushness of Sketch to the Art Deco glamour of Bob Bob Ricard, find them on page 75. We also bring you luxe bathroom looks and how you can get them for less, which is perfect if like me you’re planning a bathroom refurb this year – see page 100. On page 63 there’s creative ways with tiles; I love that we’re all getting more adventurous with not only patterns but layout, too. This month marks National Bed Month, which highlights the importance of a good night’s sleep. Getting the ‘feel’ right in your bedroom is important, so we bring you three colour looks to help update yours – from this year’s hottest hue, Living Coral, to sunshine shades through to a soothing dusky pink, each will make a stylish impact. Find it on page 63. Elsewhere we have seven interior trends on page 74 that are set to be big this season. Terrazzo is still huge (quite literally) but we’re also seeing some fun
breakthroughs like otter and donkey motifs! As always we have more inspiring real homes for you. Cover girl Lucy’s kitchen renovation on page 92 was a big job but just look at it now – it’s the dream entertaining space. Jennifer’s gorgeous rental property on page 14 is also truly inspiring as she has maintained a great flow throughout with a subtle colour scheme and lots of plants. February is the month of love, and as I write this Pantone has just released its Colour of the Year for 2019. Living Coral is a warm, peachy hue – what are your thoughts, love it or hate it? Personally, I am all for a shade which reminds me of summer and sunny holidays as winter chugs on. Our cover girl Rachael’s home is full of vibrancy and we can’t get enough of it either – it really is like a ray of sunshine. Find it on page 14. I’ve always loved the change of seasons, and for me autumn signals a time to slow down a little, before it all gets a bit crazy during the build-up to Christmas. I like to embrace everything this time of the year offers, from bracing walks in nature to heartier dishes and cosy evenings indoors as the nights draw in. This issue covers all things autumn too. Our cover girl Gillian’s home has all the hygge vibes with a log burner taking centre stage in her stylish Mid-Century style living room, find it on page 14. We’ve had a scorcher of a summer, with endless days of sunshine. It’s been pretty amazing, although perhaps not for my poor garden! But I’m ready to embrace the new season now, get out the winter warmers, and pick up one or two of the new homeware releases in the shops. I’ve also got a kitchen refit on my mind. If it’s on your to-do list as well, head over to page 63 where we have dedicated nine pages to the ins and outs of what you need to know, from planning to employing
tradespeople, plus how to shave off some pennies. If it’s a new bathroom you’re dreaming of, then take inspiration from our sanctuary bathroom feature on page 100. I mean, could there be anything better than a home spa? I don’t think so! Of course, these are big undertakings, but there’s plenty of quick-fix decorating in this issue too; like our wallpaper showcase on page 78. The interiors world has gone mad for maximalism, will you brave it with one of our impactful schemes? Personally, I’m coming around to the idea of a painterly wall mural! When you move into a new property you’re suddenly faced with lots of decisions; and I’m speaking from experience here, as after many twists and turns in the process I’ve finally moved into my new home. While it’s great to have a blank (or in my case a not-so-blank canvas) to work with, it does come with numerous dilemmas; ‘what colours should I go for in the living room?’, ‘do I change the flooring or live with it for now?’, and ‘do I buy that sideboard?’ are just some of my current woes! In short, here are lots of choices to be made; which is really wonderful but also a tad daunting. Whether you’ve been in your home forever or just moved into a new place, then you’re in luck as we have three great features this month that will help. A new piece of furniture, from a sofa or a sideboard, can really change the feel of a room too – so our 12-page furniture finds special, starting on page 61 is well worth a peruse. This month brings the first of the bank holidays, as we celebrate Easter. While we loathe to be cliché, at HomeStyle HQ we can’t resist some DIY at this time of year. I’ve always been a big fan of paint, and I’m loving the new braver ways we’re all choosing to use this affordable medium in our homes. On page 65 Crown’s Colour Consultant
talks us through some original ways to get creative, from combining contrasting colours to artistic effects. If you’re currently renting, we have a handy guide on how you can make the space your own with ideas that your landlord should approve of, starting on page 55. These crafty tricks can also come in handy for homeowners looking to update their rooms on a budget.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Fact. While it’s always busy in the lead up as I dash around buying presents for loved ones, 
I try to treasure this time as well; the build up is half the fun, right? I enjoy nothing more than spending a December evening watching a festive film while wrapping presents, and my tree goes up on 1st December; sometimes even earlier! If you’re undecided on what Christmas scheme to go for this year, then turn to page 13 as we have three looks from some of our fave high street brands. It’s my favourite time of the year as I get to spend days with my family enjoying tasty food, playing games and sharing special gifts. Like you, I love to decorate my home and this year I’m so excited for all the new ranges hitting the shops. For me, it’s a toss up between opulent gold (p24) and frosty white (p12); I really can’t decide. You will be spoilt for choice, too, with the amount of styling ideas we have packed in.
