Welcome to the October issue of The GameOn Magazine! This is where our gamescom coverage begins, and it’s unlikely to end until March so strap yourselves in! Calum and Marcello guzzled plenty of sausage, and played loads of games. Meanwhile, on this side of the Channel Owen took a look at a bunch of games coming out of the Square Enix Collective while Nathan was pining for some franchises to hit the Switch. Tyler also took time to play Minecraft with his daughter to see what she thinks of it all. As well as those and a few other articles, we fit in an interview with the founder of the studio behind Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock. We’ve got several previews, but other than the gamescom ones the real star is the other Nathan. He went to Edengrad to see the Shotgun Farmers and warn them about STARDROP, so he’s been absolutely rushed off of his Canadian feet. We have a preview of Pro Evolution Soccer 18, and the full review will appear in November’s
issue. We also have plenty of reviews, so make sure you check those out. While Tyler was playing Minecraft with Eris, he also wrote up Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 - Episode 1 & 2. Simon raided the Castle of Shikigami, Nikholai huddled up against the Impact Winter, and Alex joined the Community Inc. Gary cleared out his toybox of Micro Machines World Series, Adam felt Moribund and I became an Agent of Mayhem.

PES 2018 Gamescom Preview

Let me first begin by saying, that I am awful at football games. And while I have played FIFA and previous PES titles around friends and at parties, I’ve never really been interested in them. So, when I arrived at the Konami booth to see the first title of the day, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, let’s say I wasn’t the most enthusiastic. This wasn’t because it was Konami, the company everyone loves to hate, but actually due to my knowledge of the last couple of PES titles being terribly underwhelming. Regardless, I was open-minded, and I was interested to see just what has improved.

Hyper Universe Preview

The 2D MOBA is a genre that hasn’t been explored too much outside of the excellent Awesomenauts and Nexon’s newest title, Hyper Universe, looks to jump feet first into the fray. Bringing an esoteric selection of characters from a variety of disparate areas of pop culture, from Gundam-esque robots to soldiers and demons it looks to bring a unique spin to the popular genre.

Ovivo Review

With platformer games making such a massive comeback, it can sometimes be hard to predict what the next Super Meatboy or Braid is going to be.

The Dream Machine Review

The Dream Machine is the very definition of a passion project. This six part point-and-click adventure started its life in 2012 as a surreal story that took influence from the likes of Inception and Vanilla Sky, but with an interesting visual twist: it was entirely handmade and animated (à la early stop motion films). However, it then found itself in a protracted five year development cycle due to the sheer amount of work required to create and animate environments, objects, and characters for each chapter.
