The December 2020 issue of Vogue Arabia celebrates the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with five covers dedicated to the country and its people.
The Unesco heritage site of Diriyah, the original home of the Saudi royal family and where the Kingdom was first formed, offers, for the first time ever to a magazine, a regal backdrop to celebrate the heritage of traditional garments and craftsmanship.
The first cover stars five young Saudi women from across the country dressed in their respective regional dress.
In brilliant contrast, the smart city of NEOM, which powers this year’s Vogue Fashion Prize, draws the eye to the next star Saudi models. International Saudi couturier Ashi is also featured on a cover alongside model and Ashi muse Cindy Bruna. 
Also inside the Saudi issue, an exclusive feature by the Saudi ambassador to the US, HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Photographed for Vogue Arabia by her daughter, Princess Sarah bint Faisal Al Saud, she pens a letter to Saudi women.
In fashion, Saudi women’s evolving relationship with the abaya is explored, while in beauty, the Kingdom’s centuries-deep connection with perfume is also underscored. Themed ‘Beauties of the World’, the edition aims to celebrate women of different ethnicities, body types, and ages — all with a strong connection to relevant social causes — while reminding us that beauty is not just a physical trait, but a quality that really shines from within. After an abrupt departure from the world of fashion in 2020, Halima Aden is back on the cover of Vogue. But this time, on her own terms, and never forgetting where she comes from. It is not a coincidence that this small but unforgettable village in Africa was selected as the backdrop for Halima Aden’s first cover shoot after she unexpectedly exited the fashion industry in 2020. Now we see Aden’s story being written again, but on her own terms, and right in front of our eyes. Wearing a delicate, white Chanel lace dress (with an underbody and a classic veil, of course), she is posing next to a beautiful Moroccan door – blue, as everything else around us.
