<p>Kanika Ranka Adani has been passionate about creative activity since a very young age. &ldquo;I had a designated section in the household kitchen for my art and crafts experiments,&rdquo; shares the founder of The Studio Project (TSP), which transforms luxury products into wearable art. &ldquo;Recognising my preoccupation with the arts, my parents wasted no time enrolling me in art classes.&rdquo; From summer art camps to immersive workshops, from art-themed birthday parties to nights spent lost in the strokes of a paintbrush, her passion only grew stronger with each experience. Despite excelling academically with a particular flair for subjects such as business studies, the notion of pursuing a conventional path did not resonate with her. While college counsellors nudged her toward business universities, it was her father&rsquo;s unwavering support that motivated her to follow her love for art. &ldquo;In retrospect, it was never a question of whether I would enter the artistic industry, it was simply a matter of when and how,&rdquo; she says. &ldquo;With the guidance of my&nbsp;supportive family, I leaped into this world and followed my heart.&rdquo;</p>

<p>While pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she developed knowledgeable insights into honing her craft and exploring various mediums of expression. After graduating in 2016, she returned to India, and explored various job opportunities for a year, including a brief stint in the family textile business, in search of the right path. &ldquo;It was in October 2016 that I painted my first pair of shoes as a birthday gift for a friend, sparking the inception of my venture into custom shoe painting,&rdquo; she recalls. &ldquo;As 2017 unfolded, I decided to fully commit myself to building TSP, channelling all my energy and creativity into refining my craft and establishing my brand in the market.&rdquo;</p>

<p>It was far from easy, however, to build her brand. One of the primary hurdles she faced was getting people to understand and accept the concept, as it was relatively unfamiliar in India compared to in the Western world. &ldquo;Questions arose about the practicality and sustainability of painting expensive designer items,&rdquo; she explains. &ldquo;Questions such as &lsquo;Why would someone give you an expensive designer item to paint on?&rsquo; &lsquo;What if you make a mistake?&rsquo; &lsquo;Maybe you can have this as a side hustle, or a hobby?&rsquo;...&rdquo; Initially, gaining the trust of clients to hand over their high-end items was a significant challenge. However, she tackled these obstacles by diligently showcasing her attention to detail and the high-quality materials and techniques she used through content creation, and there has been no looking back ever since. Today, she&rsquo;s painted for celebrities, hosted events, and been featured in magazines for her work.</p>
<p>Her future plans include expanding beyond the traditional boundaries of&nbsp;wearable art by engaging with accessories, wallets, and mark&nbsp;making on varied items, including unique pieces, in more maximalist styles.</p>
