Winters are almost synonymous with late mornings and hot chocolate. When we think of winter, we rarely consider nutritious or gut-friendly foods, and the holiday spirit and the cold weather seems like justification for overindulgence and lack of physical activity. It is a time when the immune system is weakened owing to a lack of sunshine, dehydration, snacking instead of eating nutrient-dense meals, and decreased physical activity. The cold weather brings with it its own set of health complaints, including the common cold, cough, influenza, viral and bacterial infections and skin dryness, among others.
