Project Inaayat From Weed to Wealth

What happens when innovation meets compassion? At the heart of Delhi University's vibrant Ramjas College, a group of students have turned a common ecological nuisance into a catalyst for change. Project Inaayat, an initiative by Enactus Ramjas, is redefining sustainability by transforming invasive water hyacinths into eco-friendly products—while simultaneously empowering marginalised women with skills, income, and dignity.

The Force Behind the Movement

Enactus Ramjas, established in 2011, is a student-led organisation that believes in the power of social entrepreneurship to drive community upliftment. Over the past decade, the team has successfully executed 10+ projects, impacted over 1 million lives, and created 80+ jobs, all while addressing pressing social and environmental challenges.

Project Inaayat: The Journey So Far

The project's evolution is a story of student-led ingenuity.

2021: Research & Ideation began, focused on the potential of water hyacinths—an invasive plant species choking India's lakes and rivers.

2022: The pilot phase rolled out, with artisans creating coasters and mats from dried hyacinth fibers.

2023: With positive reception and growing partnerships, the project scaled to full execution, expanding its product range and artisan base. Under the fitting motto "From Weed to Wealth", Project Inaayat is a powerful fusion of environmental action and inclusive entrepreneurship.
