Transforming the unspoken into powerful visual poetry on canvas.

A prolific contemporary artist and educator, Mansi Vishwas Sagar has carved a distinct niche in the Indian art landscape through her evocative explorations of colour, emotion, and form. With over two decades of exhibitions, residencies, and accolades—including the Manikarnika Women's Kala Award and multiple national gold medals—her journey reflects both mastery and introspection. In this conversation, she opens up about her creative evolution, artistic discipline, and the deeper philosophy behind her vibrant canvases.

imageCould you walk us through your latest collection-what's the title, and what sparked the inspiration behind it?

The title of my recent paintings is “Anukta”, which means unstated, unsaid, unspoken, or unuttered. My artistic journey revolves around womanhood—as a woman, I desire to express the unexpressed emotions of women through my artworks. We live in a patriarchal society where women don’t have the liberty to express their desires freely, be it sexual desires or homosexuality. If a woman expresses her sexual desires, she is often not considered cultured.

What's the heartbeat of your latest work? Is there a central theme or narrative that ties your pieces together?

I have derived my inspiration from many movies and several real-life events that I witnessed happening around me in my daily life. Such events provoked a trail of thought in my mind. The female figures represented in my recent paintings are in an internal monologue, striving to seek happiness within, rather than expecting others to make them happy in this patriarchal society.
