An illness left him unable to conceive, but he always knew he'd be a father one day

PATRICK BRAMMALL 'ADOPTING WAS OUR DREAM'

After years of hard graft getting his name out there in Australian film and TV, Patrick Brammall’s certainly enjoying his time in the leading-man spotlight, thanks to a plum role in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Yet, he admits that getting his big break at 50 means taking a backseat to his other, more important job – devoted girl dad. “I’m like, oh f**k, wouldn’t it have been good if this kind of opportunity had happened 20 years ago? But I know I wouldn’t have been ready,” Patrick says. “I would have got caught up in it… I wouldn’t have known the value of other things. I have tiny people who depend on me… and that’s more important than this.”

LONG ROAD TO FATHERHOOD

It’s not surprising that Patrick cherishes his role as a father so much, given the journey he and wife Harriet Dyer went on to become parents to daughters Joni, four, and Mabel, one. In a candid chat for Mamamia’s No Filter podcast recently, the actor reflected back on his serious health issues as a child and how ongoing medical intervention and surgeries left him unable to conceive children naturally.
