WHAT YOUR HAIR SAYS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH

Holiday hair causing you havoc? Warmer weather can mess with the way your hair looks, but sun exposure and summer activities may play a major part in seasonal shedding, meaning you might suddenly notice more hair loss than normal. So if you're also seeing other changes, like a red scalp or greasier roots, how can you tell if it's just a summer issue, or something else? Our experts reveal all...

SHEDDING

Losing more hair at this time of year? It can be alarming, especially on holiday, but it's common, says hair health expert Nicole Liddon*. 'It's our body's way of keeping us cool, but exposure to heat, sunlight, sea water and chlorine can cause even more loss through breakage.' Some loss can be avoided by better lifestyle choices. 'This is because it can be triggered by dehydration, crash diets and erratic sleep,' warns hair and skin expert Dr Jill Chitalia (makeo.app). FIX IT: Stay hydrated by drinking 2-3 litres of water a day. 'Also, avoid using dryers and straighteners over the summer - this will just make your hair more brittle,' adds Nicole.
