Nothing says ‘Welcome home’ like a bright and airy hallway, complete with perfectly positioned coat hooks and a gallery wall of family photos. The reality is often more like a dark, narrow passage, with too many doorways and a pile of shoes. If this is what greets you every time you walk through the door, don’t worry. Here’s our five-step guide to help you turn the dingiest of hallways into a welcoming entrance.
1 Pick your palette
Hallways can handle strong colours and patterns, as you don’t linger here. Be as adventurous as you like, but do assess your wall heights. If you have two storeys, it may be better to paint up high and get your wallpaper hit on the ground floor. To avoid nasty surprises, estimate the area you need to cover and work out how much the paint or wallpaper will cost.
