But let’s take a moment to consider the shiny loveliness of the compact disc – and Naim’s equally good-looking take on the modest old CD player, the Naim CD5si.

Naim hasn’t upgraded that model in almost a decade, and it doesn’t need to. The CD5si is a particularly exceptional example of Naim’s talents for combining a superb sound with great value for money. First released in 2013, it was an enhanced version of the older CD5i model, and it still looks like a typically Naim product, encased in the company’s standard black finish and simple, utilitarian design.
