A promising new chapter for Cyrus integrated amplifiers

The new 40 Series, comprising the 40 AMP, 40 ST streamer, 40 CD player and 40 PSU outboard power supply, marks a new beginning for Cyrus with a fresh, forward-looking range of products.

The 40 AMP we have here looks clean and modern to our eyes. The casework is made of brushed anodised aluminium and has a glass front. While the casing follows the brand's traditional half-width proportions, it is also a little bigger in all ways than previous Cyrus products. This is handy as it gives the engineers more leeway to fit the internal circuitry and makes heat management a little easier.

Five touch buttons control input selection, balance control and mute. A lit Cyrus logo at the top is the power switch, while the chunky-feeling volume dial operates with crisp precision. The classy new casework and nicely made volume control give the 40 AMP a quality feel that an amplifier at this price deserves.

The 5in TFT display is crisp and clear enough to view from a distance and is useful for showing the current input and for navigating setup menus. There is a fair bit of control on offer, from excluding unused inputs to setting gain for each one, as well as selecting the onboard digital filter. There are various Standby options and the ability to change the brightness on the volume control's LED ring and the display.
