Apple appears ready to reset the narrative around Siri.

SIRI 2.0: MASSIVE IOS 27 OVERHAUL COMING TO WWDC26

After years of modest refinements, iOS 27 is widely expected to introduce what many inside the industry are calling “Siri 2.0” — a sweeping transformation that shifts the assistant from a simple voice command tool into a deeply embedded, system-wide AI agent. WWDC26 is shaping up to be the stage for that reveal.

For more than a decade, Siri has been part of Apple’s identity, yet its evolution has been measured. While competitors pushed aggressively into generative AI and conversational systems capable of complex reasoning, Siri largely remained a structured, command-based interface. That gap has grown increasingly visible. iOS 27 is expected to narrow it decisively.

FROM COMMAND TOOL TO INTELLIGENT COORDINATOR

The core shift revolves around capability and intent. Instead of responding to isolated prompts — “set a timer,”“send a message,” “what's the weather?” — Siri 2.0 is expected to handle layered, multi-step workflows.

A single request such as planning a trip could trigger calendar analysis, route mapping, hotel comparisons, booking suggestions, and draft confirmations — all within one continuous exchange. Rather than waiting for explicit followup instructions, the assistant would interpret broader goals and assemble coordinated actions.

This evolution reframes Siri as a digital coordinator embedded across the operating system. It would no longer function as a feature users open occasionally, but as a contextual layer woven into everyday activity.

A NEW AI MARKETPLACE APPROACH

Perhaps the most consequential structural change involves Apple's reported move toward a modular AI framework — often described as a “marketplace” model.
