Samsung Galaxy A53 from £379 / stuff.tv/A53

What’s the story? The Galaxy A53 is what happens when you take most of what we love about the Galaxy S22 (bold design, killer screen, capable cameras) but slash the price. From a distance, you wouldn’t know it wasn’t a full-on flagship… and Samsung’s new entry-level phone hasn’t had to compromise much either: you’re still getting a beefy battery, a 120Hz AMOLED display and four rear snappers.

Is it any good? Look past the pointless macro and depth sensors and there’s still lots to like on the photography front. Image processing does a lot with the 64MP main sensor, putting it up there with Google and Apple in the cut-price camera stakes. It’s a shame the home-grown Exynos CPU is so underwhelming, though, as it saps the phone of any urgency. One for camera fans who don’t mind waiting around.
