Is the Insta360-backed Antigravity AI an 8K all-seeing eye in the sky? Tom Morgan-Freelander powers up the propellers for a month to find out...

DAY 01

When the Antigravity A1 arrived on my doorstep today, my first question was why a drone that weighs less than 250g – the magic number that lets you fly it without a licence in most countries – needs such a big box. Turns out it's because the Insta360 spinoff's debut effort comes with everything you need to get airborne, plus a bunch more besides.

Beyond the drone itself, even the basic kit comes with a pair of Vision goggles and a Grip controller; my comprehensive bundle also includes a battery charger, enough extra batteries for over an hour of flight time, and a shoulder bag to lug it all around in. My first few hours were spent updating firmware, with even the batteries taking 15mins each.

imageThe Goggles look particularly sci-fi, with popup antennae and an exterior OLED screen that lets your spotter see your first-person view during flight. The elastic headband is comfy and it's reasonably light, on account of the battery being separate: it's worn around your neck on a lanyard, with a cable connecting the two. Manual adjusters let you change the internal display to match your vision, and I can't fault the sharp resolution.
