Cracking the identity code in cybersecurity
PCQuest
|February 2026
Modern identity security isn’t about who you are. It’s about how, where, and why you connect. The game has changed, and static credentials are no longer enough. This is the rise of real-time, risk-aware access
How behavior, AI, and continuous signals are reshaping identity as the control plane of security?
The idea that a username and password can protect critical systems feels almost quaint in today's digital threat landscape. As cyberattacks grow smarter and faster, the very definition of trust in security is shifting. Identity is no longer a static credential but a dynamic context. One that must be validated continuously, not just at login.
This evolution in thinking is front and center for Spencer Young, Senior Vice President, International, Delinea. His perspective offers a deep dive into why identity is now the security perimeter and what it takes to enforce it effectively.
When access becomes a moving target
Security no longer hinges on a single factor. A user's identity, especially in the context of privileged access, must be validated against a constantly shifting backdrop of behavior, geography, time, and intent.
Real-world incidents have proven the value of this approach. In one case, a service account began accessing systems it typically never touched and at odd hours. Thanks to privileged session monitoring and just-in-time access controls, the deviation from normal behavior triggered an alert. But it wasn't just one thing. The defining signal was the combination of behavioral drift and geographic impossibility. In other words, the account was attempting the impossible, and the system knew it.
This illustrates a broader truth. Access control is no longer about whether you have credentials. It's about how you behave once you're in.
