This port-dense PoE+ switch offers a great feature set, but value and management options could be improved

D-Link’s network switch portfolio has a solution for every business, and its latest DGS-1530 series is aimed at those with big expansion plans. The family comprises eight models offering a wide choice of gigabit port densities, and a key feature is their stacking capabilities as up to nine switches can be connected over 10GbE uplinks and managed using a single, virtual IP address.

The flagship DGS-1530-52P presents 48 gigabit copper and four 10GbE SFP+ fibre ports. Along with the DGS-1530-28P, it offers 802.3at PoE+ services across all gigabit ports, making it well suited to high-density deployments of IP cameras, VoIP phones and wireless access points.

It also offers uninterrupted power services, with its Perpetual PoE feature ensuring a continuous power supply to powered devices (PDs) when the switch is rebooted or receives a firmware upgrade. Its default option is Fast PoE, which aims to provide power within 15-20 seconds of a reboot as it doesn’t need to wait for the switch to completely load its operating system.
