Apple is preparing a significant evolution of its podcast platform, introducing a fully integrated video-podcast experience in upcoming software updates that extend the role of Apple Podcasts beyond audio distribution.

Developer betas of iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 already include support for HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) video playback inside the Podcasts app, signaling a broader shift as podcast consumption increasingly overlaps with video platforms. The rollout is expected to begin in the spring, bringing native video capabilities directly into Apple's ecosystem for both creators and listeners.

The move reflects changing audience behavior across the global podcast market, where many shows now publish full-length video versions alongside traditional audio formats. Major platforms have accelerated their video-podcast investments, and the growing popularity of visual talk shows, live interview formats, and personality-driven programs has transformed podcasts into hybrid media experiences. When a program includes video content, the app will automatically detect available formats and offer playback controls similar to those used in video-streaming applications.
