Matavesi's delight as he returns to Camborne

IN a moment rich with emotion and legacy, Camborne Rugby Club have secured the return of one of its own — Fijian international and Cornwall native Sam Matavesi — in a signing that goes far beyond the rugby pitch.

After a decorated career that has taken him from the town’s Recreation Ground to some of the world’s biggest arenas, Matavesi is coming home.

With 40 caps for Fiji, appearances in two World Cups, and domestic titles in both France and England all safely in the locker, the 33-year-old hooker could easily have continued to ply his trade across the Channel with Lyon.

However, his heart has led him back to where it all began, teaming up next season in the National Leagues with older brother, Josh.

For the Matavesi family, this return is deeply personal. Their late father, Sireli, wore the Cherry & White with pride now two of his three sons will carry on that legacy, united on the same field, in the Cornish town that shaped them.
