THE RULES DERBY IS FIRM AS EVER

THE history of footballing rivalries was born when the two oldest clubs in the sport first faced off on December 26, 1860.

Now, some 165 years later, the 'Rules Derby' is still going strong and, on Tuesday night, Hallam and Sheffield FC locked horns once again in the county cup, in a match played at the world's oldest football ground, Hallam's Sandygate Stadium.

This was the first competitive match between the two clubs in 12 years and was well received with a bumper sell-out crowd of 1,496 turning up to watch. And the home side didn't disappoint as they progressed to the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup semi-final, running out 2-1 winners against the Step 4 opponents, thanks to goals from James Cadman and Leon Howarth, either side of Connor Cutt's leveller for Sheffield.
