EBBSFLEET United succumbed to the inevitable, as their relegation to National League South was confirmed — but at least they went down fighting.

Twice behind in a crazy 16-minute period midway through the first-half, the Fleet nonetheless responded three times only to be denied the win that might have earned a brief stay of execution.

"I'm hurting as much as anyone but we can’t shy away from it. It’s a difficult day and it’s been a hell of a difficult season all round,” admitted Fleet boss Josh Wright. “It's a season that we all want to forget, but that’s now two wins and a draw on the bounce, and I keep stressing to the players that it’s how we end this season that takes us into next year.

“Relegation doesn’t change our mindset or approach. We will go into every game trying to get a positive result and end the season on a high.”
