JJ Spaun holing a putt from over 60ft on the 18th green at Oakmont to win the US Open was one of the most iconic moments of the season.

The fast and undulating putting surfaces were part of the character of the championship. There was also an interesting feature in which one of the putting greens on the golf course contained an area deemed a practice putting green.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) introduced a Local Rule allowing practice at the rear of the 9th putting green in an area defined by blue stakes and a blue dot. Players were able to use this area of the putting green to make practice strokes before or during the round.
