This is Ireland's talismanic links, one of big dunes, remarkable green sites and almost too perfect conditioning. Set on the west coast, above the Atlantic, these high dunes are home to 36 holes, but it is the Old course that garners the accolades. And with good reason. There is mystery in its history, with the course designers unknown. Then there are the stories of journeys to discover it by both golf writer Herbert Warren Wind in the 1970s and, a decade later, Tom Watson.
