Tiger or rabbit, we all have one thing in common: we have just accumulated a fresh 12 months of golfing experiences. Your golf may have been brilliant in 2024; you may have stunk the place out for most of it. More likely you had a few poetic days woven into a more prosaic backdrop. But whatever your personal picture, you can use it to improve your play in 2025.

How can you do this? By thinking of your last year of golf in terms of a relationship with the game.

We are all accustomed to the concept of relationships: with our partner, our parents, our children, our boss or staff. We know these relationships have their ups and downs. We also habitually spend time considering the circumstances that see these relationships thrive... and the ones that cause the problems and arguments. In our personal lives, we use our analysis to usher these relationships towards a more positive and productive footing - and away from the situations that cause trouble. There is nothing stopping you taking a similar approach to golf.

So start by thinking back to your three or four worst golfing experiences of 2024. This could be a single round, or perhaps a longer period where you hated the game, or felt disillusioned with it. Using the relationship metaphor, these are periods where you fell out with the game or quarrelled with it.
