Wout Van Aert ends cyclo-cross season early and is forced to have surgery on ankle, reports Adam Becket

Wout van Aert was forced to end his cyclo-cross season early after crashing out of the Mol round of the Exact Cross last Friday.

The three-time CX world champion, 31, was scheduled to race at least two more times on the CX circuit this season, before his road season begins, but instead, sprained his ankle and suffered a “small fracture”. It was later confirmed that he had undergone successful surgery on the fracture.
