India have been without ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for quite some time now in the white-ball set-up. Despite the player being available, the selectors and management have overlooked him. One has seen several spinners being in the mix of things, but sadly, Chahal isn’t there to be seen.

He was also not considered for the ICC World Cup 2023. Notably, the BCCI announced the central contracts list for 30 players until September 2024. Chahal, who was in Grade C last time, has been omitted. One wonders how it has come to this.

As the BCCI has made it mandatory for contracted players to be available for domestic cricket when not called up, Chahal has ticked the boxes in this regard. Being a white-ball specialist, he has always been in the Vijay Hazare trophy (50 overs) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy (20 overs). Like Hardik Panya, Chahal isn’t part of India’s most extended format plans. So, not seeing the player in the Ranji this season serves a purpose. So if Hardik Pandya keeps his contract despite not playing domestic cricket (white-ball), then how come Chahal gets another treatment?
