20 WEARABLE HEALTH TRACKERS
How It Works UK
|Issue 210
Whether you strap a wellness coach to your wrist or weave subtle sensors into your clothes, these devices are revolutionising how we track our health
1 SLEEPING BRAIN TRACKER
The Muse headband tracks brain activity and rest levels as you sleep
FRONTAL CORTEX
The headband picks up electrical signals from the frontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for focus, emotional regulation and decision-making.
EEG SENSORS
Real-time brainwave activity is measured by these sensors to differentiate between light, deep and REM sleep. Electrical signals from nerve cells are amplified by the sensors.
DATA TRANSMISSIONEncrypted data from the EEG sensors is sent to a connected smart device via bluetooth for the wearer to analyse.
MONITORING MOVEMENT
This analyses the wearer's body movements, gathering data to help determine how restful their sleep is.
SLEEP LEVELS
When the brain enters light sleep, brainwaves slow down. In deep sleep they're high amplitude and low frequency and in REM sleep they're mixed frequency, similar to wakefulness.
ADJUSTABLE FIT
The headband can be adjusted for different head shapes so that it lies flat on the head, helping it pick up brainwave readings accurately.
