JWST detects complex organic molecules outside the Milky Way for the first time

In a discovery that could reshape our understanding of how life began in the Universe, astronomers have identified multiple complex building blocks of life in a galaxy outside the Milky Way.

Researchers using the JWST discovered five organic compounds in the ice around a protostar called ST6 in the Large Magellanic Cloud, our closest galactic neighbour.
