It has been a long time since I've had to force myself to stop playing a game, but recently I've been horribly addicted to Baldur's Gate 3. You'll no doubt be aware of the reviews, but I'm not sure any game in recent memory has hooked me in quite the same way.

Honestly, I started to get depressed at how I couldn't stop playing.

I felt like a blob - a horrible waste of humanity. I'm sort of over it now. At least for the time being.

It's a testament to just how immersive and all-consuming a really, really good game can be, but also - probably - a reflection of my own tendency towards hyper focus.

That said, when I think back to other games that have consumed me so utterly, the list isn't as long as I thought. Sure, there haven't been many games that can compete with Baldur's Gate 3's expansive freedoms, but there have been plenty that dominated my thoughts until I'd finished them.
