GIRISH LINGANNA enumerates the works on the future fighter aircrafts that are taking place in different countries
-
A sixth-generation fighter is a new kind of jet fighter aircraft that is more advanced than fifth-generation fighters, which are present in the design or development phase. The United States, China, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Germany, Spain, and France have all announced plans to create aircrafts of the sixth generation. We could see the first sixth-generation fighters enter service in the early 2030s.
The Leap Sixth-generation jet concepts are built on strong innovations such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a decision aid to the pilot. This will take the current array of sensors to another level. The concept of big data will go hand-in-glove with AI, and the fighter jet will generate monstrous volumes of data.
The next generation will not focus solely on the single aircraft; rather, the sixth generation strike capability will be a move beyond those limitations, requiring a theatre-wide integration of systems. With a connected battlefield, there will be multiple systems and subsystems like a primary airborne sensory suite, ground-based detection and ranging system, and sensors aboard other aircraft, including drones. This influx of data will be fed into a single AI model to build a large-scale picture of the battlefield in real-time. This fused rendition of sensors, along with predictive modelling, will be an excellent tool for the pilot's situational awareness.
