Since prime lenses are always in high demand and also most times are the favourites of photographers, we decided to compare and test a specific category of prime lenses that have focal lengths between 22mm and 28mm. These lenses are a great choice for photographers who want a wide field of view with a fixed aperture and the ability to take close-up shots. In our shootout, we asked different camera lens brands to send us their best APS-C lenses within this focal length range, and we are going to put them head-to-head to see how they perform against each other.

Look, Body and Feel: 

• Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Lens

The RF 28mm f/2.8 lens is a small and lightweight camera lens that’s designed to work with full-frame cameras. It weighs only 120g and is like a pancake, and is often referred to as that as well. The build quality feels good and one good thing is that Canon has ensured that it comes with a metal mount instead of a plastic mount.

Unlike larger lenses, it doesn’t have many buttons and switches, but it does have a special ring that can be used for different purposes depending on the mode you select: Autofocus (AF), Control, or Manual Focus (MF). In AF mode, the ring doesn’t have a function. In Control mode, you can use it to adjust settings like ISO or EV. In MF mode, it helps you to focus manually. Overall it feels light, compact and well built.
