Keep moving
I make my images in all sorts of ways and it’s very important to try different styles of movement. I shoot while standing, while moving the camera with my hands, while riding on trams and buses, and even from the windows of cars and trains. You can discover movement anywhere. Just the motion of walking often works for me, especially when it’s combined with the movement of other people in a street scene. There are all these random directions and together they make something unique. The height and tilt of the camera and whether you’re walking uphill or downhill are all factors, too.
When shooting as a passenger in a car or train, you notice other types of movement. The speed of the vehicle and distance to the subject affects it, so it’s different in one part of the image compared to another. The randomness means that, in most situations, I keep shooting so I can pick the best version.
