Breastfeeding myths decoded

- Dr Gayathri D Kamath,

Busted!

The journey of nursing is beautiful and something to cherish. Initially it may appear a little daunting for a new mum but eventually after getting the hang of it the journey is fruitful for both the mum and the baby in several ways.

MYTH: I cannot breastfeed if I do not get natural labour pains?

FACT: Irrespective of the mode of delivery be it spontaneous or induced or even by a caesarean section, you will be blessed to breastfeed your baby. After delivery, the hormones such as Oxytocin and Prolactin will help you to produce milk and facilitate breastfeeding.

MYTH: If I am lactating, I should be eating for two people. I should not eat my regular food and eat food specially prepared for me.
