Even in this age of photo manipulation, if the camera is not going to lie for you then neither are the bathroom scales.

And so it was trying on a new T-shirt, I appealed to inanimate objects to tell me a different story from that being told by my eyes.

The problem with the new T-shirt was it had been waiting around unworn since it was bought three years ago.

So while the tags said 'new' the period since purchase ruled there was no chance of taking it back to exchange for a more suitable size.
