Coben's latest crime adaptation is both mysterious and morbid
Yorkshire Evening Post
|January 14, 2026
Netflix loves Harlan Coben.
It seems that every few months another one of his books has been adapted for a TV mini series with an all-star cast. This time it's Run Away, a mystery centred on a dad's search for his missing adult daughter, and it proves an electrifying watch.Simon Greene (James Nesbitt) initially appears to have it all; a loving family, a high-flying job and an island in his kitchen. He's a man living the middle-class fantasy.
But what's quickly revealed is that not all is as it seems. Simon's eldest daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) ran away six months ago, leaving a gap in the family that can't be filled.
Simon, like any father, can't settle with Paige missing, so does whatever he can to find her.
In the tradition of Coben, the plot of course grows far more complicated than this. There's a web of characters and strands of plot all entangled with each other, but only through watching all eight episodes do you figure out how.
As an author, Harlan Coben is the master of the jigsaw thriller, and this is why his books make such good TV. He'll start his story by giving you a few pieces to try your best to match.
