Why it's on trend to support Second Hand September drive
-
When eBay was unveiled as the main sponsor of Love Island, it was a noteworthy moment. The dating show more famous for turning contestants into influencers than helping them find love dumped its previous fast fashion brands to bring sustainable style to the forefront.
It was a major turning point in attitudes to preloved fashion - and one that echoes a move away from cheap clothes that often end up in landfill.
And it's totally in line with the ethos of Second Hand September, an annual campaign that encourages people to avoid buying new clothes for the entire month.
It aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion and promote more sustainable ways of consuming fashion.
By participating, individuals can reduce waste, support secondhand markets, and contribute to the global effort to slow down the harmful effects of overproduction and overconsumption in the fashion industry.
According to Oxfam, the charity that started the campaign, up to 40 per cent of all clothing manufactured globally is never sold.
