A broadband provider is scaling back its roll-out in areas of Cornwall, reports Olivier Vergnault
CORNISH internet provider Wildanet is to scale back its broadband rollout to isolated communities.
The Liskeard firm, which has been expanding a new fibre-to-the-premises network across rural parts of Cornwall and Devon, confirmed that following a review of its Project Gigabit contracts to roll out gigabit-capable broadband to hard-to-reach premises in south west and central Cornwall, it has taken the decision to scale the project back.
Project Gigabit is a Government's publicly-funded broadband roll-out contract.
Areas affected by Wildanet's decision will see 7,700 properties in west and mid-Cornwall being affected.
As revealed by ISP Review, Wildanet was contracted to provide internet to 19,250 properties within the two areas as part of the scheme but has only provided the work for 13,200 of them.
