New intercept boats mark 'significant upgrade' for MoD marine police unit

THE Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) Marine Unit has received two new intercept and escort boats.

The delivery of the first two of 24 rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs) marks the start of a fleet modernisation programme.
The £13m Intercept and Escort Craft (IEC) contract, awarded to Zodiac Milpro UK based in Swansea, will see new vessels deployed across Plymouth’s Devonport, as well as Portsmouth and Clyde naval bases by February 2027.
The new boats will replace several aging classes with a single, more efficient fleet. This streamlined approach will cut training requirements and maintenance costs while improving operational effectiveness for MDP maritime patrols.
