Filming taking place in Cornwall

(Steve Tanner)

CREATED in response to the need for a single point of contact for the thriving screen industry in the region, Screen Cornwall has established itself as a central point of contact that supports production and talent development, ultimately driving economic growth.

Sitting down with Screen Cornwall’s founder and managing director Laura Giles to speak about the organisation's ethos and plans for the future, she sheds light on sustainability, Cornish language representation and her hopes for the region's growing film industry.

Screen Cornwall was set up with two main goals in mind: ‘driving the economic impact of the screen industries in Cornwall’ and ‘providing opportunities for voices that haven't been heard in the media in the same way before.’ Since this beginning, the ethos for the organisation has branched into four primary missions - a film office that connects production teams with landowners, sources crew and assists with gaining filming permits; a talent development and outreach programme that helps introduce new voices and talent to the industry; a CreaTech programme exploring how new technology and audience behaviours might change the industry; and Cornish public service media, which looks at how Cornwall is currently represented on screen.
