Warnings as Storm Amy blows in with rain and strong winds

YELLOW weather warnings are in place across the entire UK today with Storm Amy continuing to bring in high winds and rain.

As the first named storm of the season swept in from the Atlantic yesterday, schools in Northern Ireland closed early, and ferry sailings from the west of Scotland were cancelled.

Scotland and Northern Ireland bore the brunt of the storm, with amber warnings in place for wind. However, the wet and windy conditions are spreading across the rest of the UK, with all areas including southern England covered by yellow warnings today.

A yellow wind warning, which was in place yesterday for the north and west areas of Wales, extends across the nation today and is in place until midnight tonight in the north and west, and until 7pm for southwest, south and mid-Wales.
