Tory MS criticises calls to devolve Crown Estate

A WELSH Conservative Senedd member has criticised the Welsh Government, as well as Plaid Cymru and all 22 Welsh councils, for calling for the Crown Estate to be devolved.

Aberconwy Senedd member Janet Finch-Saunders spoke on behalf of her group in a Senedd debate where the Welsh Government announced it was setting up an expert group to consider the practical consequences of devolution, including the importance of the financial and governance implications for Wales and how best to proceed.
The Welsh Government wants the Crown Estate devolved, but the UK Government is unwilling, putting the two Labour administrations at odds.
Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies said: “We are clear that the Crown Estate should be the responsibility of the devolved government in Wales. This is one of a number of areas where we will continue pushing for the people of Wales to be able to take more decisions closer to home.
