Tory leader questions government support after flooding

CONSERVATIVE leader Kemi Badenoch has visited flood-hit Monmouth and questioned if enough support has been provided since the Storm Claudia deluge.

The leader of the opposition met with local business leaders, including some who had been directly impacted by the flooding, at Bar 125 on the town’s Monnow Street, which had opened just a week before it was swamped by the flood water.

The bar is now back up and running, with a limited service, just a fortnight after the river Monnow, which runs beside it, burst its banks and flooded the busy high street and forced numerous businesses to close and residents from their homes.

Ms Badenoch said she had promised the leader of the Welsh Conservative Senedd group she would visit the town.

She said: "I promised to Darren Millar I would come to Monmouth and look at the flood damage once the budget was done and as soon as I had an opportunity and I wanted to see what people had been dealing with and the extent of the damage and understanding what had been done to help them and see if there’s anything we can do to help them."
