Ponty back at summit after snatching festive derby triumph

PONTYPRIDD returned to the top of the Admiral Premiership after coming from behind four times to edge a Boxing Day cracker with Beddau 36-33 in front of more than 5,000 at Sardis Road.

This was the first league meeting between the sides. The only previous competitive fixture between the two was more than half a century ago when Ponty won a Welsh Cup match 21-9 at Sardis Road in November 1974.
Last season's Championship East winners Beddau, with 10 wins from 11 matches, were looking to continue their dream start to life in the Premiership and went into the match knowing a win would take them top.
What unfolded in front of the biggest crowd The House of Pain had seen for many a year did not disappoint, with both sides scoring five tries.
Beddau drew first blood when scrumhalf Callaghan Smith picked up from the base of a ruck and sniped over.
