Opinions split on trail hunting ban

RIDERS gathered for the traditional Boxing Day hunts yesterday amid warnings that the government in Westminster has alienated rural communities with a planned ban on trail hunting.

Events taking place in Wales, according to the Countryside Alliance, were the Cresselly hunt, the Vale of Clettwr hunt, the Banwen Miners Bloodhounds hunt, the Llangeinor Pentyrch hunt, the Curre and Llangibby hunt, and the Monmouthshire hunt.

Trail hunting involves a scent being laid out for a hunt to follow instead of a live animal and was introduced as a replacement for fox hunting, which was banned by Labour in 2004.
