VITOR Matos insists there were positives to take from his first game as Swansea City boss, but admits his side need to improve quickly if they are to get their Championship season back on track.

Goals from Joe Ward and Lars-Jorgen Salvesen were enough to condemn the Swans boss to defeat to visiting Derby County in his first game in charge, although Ethan Galbraith did hit back with a late strike in the final minute of normal time.

A fourth straight Championship loss leaves the Swans just four points above the relegation zone heading into Saturday’s trip to West Bromwich Albion, but Matos claims there were some positive elements within this performance.

However, he admits big improvements are needed if his side are to start climbing the table, and says his players need to treat the trip to the Hawthorns ‘as if it’s a final’.
