WALES international Mason Grady went off injured in the second half of Cardiff’s preseason rout of Richmond on Saturday.
The wing and centre left the field after the break with his arm held in a makeshift sling.
It's rotten luck for the Blue and Blacks man, who was making his first appearance for the club after a 10-month layoff with a knee injury.
It is also bad news for new Wales head coach Steve Tandy, who will want the likes of Grady available as he looks to make a winning start in his new role in the autumn internationals.
Cardiff coach Matt Sherratt says they'll await results of a scan.
“It’s a shoulder injury, but we'll have to assess it in the next 24-48 hours,’ said Sherratt.
“Fingers crossed it’s OK because Mason deserves a bit of luck.
