MMA pioneer Johns calls time on glittering career

WELSH MMA fighter Brett Johns has announced his retirement following his bout with Nikolay Grozdev in Madrid.

Swansea's Johns suffered a second-round stoppage in the Spanish capital.
Although there was to be no fairytale ending for the 33-year-old, the curtain has now been brought down on a stellar career which has seen him called “a pioneer” of the sport.
In an interview with S4C, Johns says it wasn’t an easy decision to call time, adding that he could see the strain fighting has had on his family.
“Fighting has been part of my identity for over 13 years,” he said.
