Man launched brutal attack on partner in hotel

A MAN attacked his partner in their car and a hotel lobby while they were on a weekend away.
Andrew Bishop, 42, then used “utterly disgraceful” racist language towards the hotel receptionist, who called the police.
Paul Hewitt, prosecuting, told Cardiff Crown Court how Bishop and his then partner had gone away for what was meant to be a “pleasant and celebratory” weekend away at the Ty Hotel in Newport. On February 16, 2023, they went to the Potters Pub in Newport before heading to a second bar.
The court heard how Bishop went to the toilet and she became worried about what he would be like when he emerged, due to previous incidents when she'd spoken to other people.
When he came out, Mr Hewitt described how his demeanour had changed and his former partner therefore tried to leave by calling a taxi. However, Bishop stopped her and insisted he drove them back to the hotel.
On the way, the court heard Bishop drove along the motorway “erratically”. The victim then suffered a blow to her face and felt her mouth fill with blood. She then witnessed Bishop punching the car windscreen.
Mr Hewitt explained how Bishop then left the motorway and pulled on to a dark road. There, the woman tried to get out the car but he grabbed her and threw her over the bonnet. He then forced her back into the car and they continued to the hotel.
