Joy of six for Probert after return from suspension

A SUSPENSION meant a quiet start to the month for David Probert, but things picked up in style for the Bargoed-born rider last week when he rode six winners, which included a high-profile success on Never So Brave in Ascot's Group 2 Summer Mile on Saturday.

Now based in Berkshire, Probert often revels when returning to his homeland and Ffos Las' fixture last Wednesday provided him with a perfect opportunity to get back in the winner's enclosure and the jockey took it with both hands.

Emma Lavelle is better known as a jumps trainer but teamed up with Probert in the nursery, which they landed with Torbay, while a relatively new link with Clive Cox seems to be going well for the 36-year-old, successful aboard Bassenthwaite for the leading Lambourn trainer in the 5f novice.

Probert might, however, have got the biggest kick out of Cogital's victory in the 1m6f handicap, which completed a near-163-1 treble for him.

A stable stalwart of Bernard Llewellyn's Bargoed yard, the gelding has now won eight times for the trainer and did so in commanding fashion, allowing Probert a cheeky glance to rival rider Eddy Greatrex as the pair swept by. Llewellyn followed up at Chepstow on Friday when King Of The Dance obliged.
