Hughes looks for more new faces after fifth defeat

DAVID Hughes hopes to strengthen his squad on deadline day after Newport County suffered a fifth successive defeat on Saturday.

Hughes has made nine signings - six permanent deals and three loan moves - since his appointment as Exiles boss in the summer.

And he hopes to add at least two more before the transfer window closes at 7pm tonight.

"We're actively trying," said the manager. "The chairman has been terrific in trying to get some new faces in and we're still doing so.

"We're on the front foot, we're trying to be proactive to get some players in before the window shuts on Monday evening."

Hughes has generally praised his players after the defeats by Millwall, Grimsby Town, Salford City and MK Dons, but he admitted that they "needed to be far, far better" at the Abbey Stadium.
